Bridge Girder Stress Analysis for the Solomon Rail Bridge Construction
Project Date:
Client: ACCIONA
Project Type: Civil & Infrastructure, Specialist Analysis
Location: Wittenoom, WANon-linear harmonic excitation analysis using the Finite Element Method to determine stress fluctuations and responses for the 13T bridge girders Recommendations for conditions of transport for the girders.
Categories: Structural Dynamics, Temporary Works Design
Project Description:
Design & Analysis conducted a non-linear harmonic excitation analysis using the Finite Element Method to determine the stress fluctuations and responses for two 13T plate girders being transported from the Fremantle Steel Group workshop to site near Wittenoom in Western Australia for the Solomon Rail Bridge construction.
The two main longitudinal plate girders were 3.8m deep with an overall length of 45.562m.
Transportation primarily occurred over paved roads with and a 40km section of unpaved road.
Project Scope:
- Non-linear harmonic excitation analysis using the Finite Element Method to determine stress fluctuations and responses for the 13T bridge girders
- Recommendations for conditions of transport for the girders.
Outcome:
The girders were found to have adequate capacity and were subsequently transported to site on their weak axis with a speed restriction to 10km/hr enforced over the section of unpaved road.
